Lost Arts Goose Island Chicago Ill
The Lost Art is a mixed-use building project. Although there were many programmatic elements the main focus was the Lost Arts maker spaces. The goal was to create a space for makers and artists to have a free space to do art and multimedia projects. The user is to have access to computers, 3D printers, CNC machines, and other facilities that may be out of reach for them. The architecture of the building needed to be a free-flowing space that worked in parallel with the circulation of the street. The transparency of the building showcased the interior architecture and the free-flowing plan. Inspired by high modernist buildings, it is able to showcase art that is inside on multiple levels. The top-level is a space that can be used as public commerce with access to the roof and the ability to interact with the dome. The program is separated by a partition that mitigates sound allowing for half the building to be used for quiet activities.
