Furniture
This piece is a sculptural object, an exploration in the use of wood to convey directional energy. Rather than a fully functional approach to furniture design, the user can project their own uses and functions. The height and dimensions are similar to a stool, it does not necessarily conform to that of a stool. It can be supplemented with other pieces of furniture and increase the functionality of them. with the use of edgebanding and plywood, this object invites the observer to move around it.
Shelving units seamlessly join the wood to the stone. Around the corner, edge banding connects the shelves to elements of the furniture on that side. The heavy base creates a sturdy platform for the structure that goes from the floor all the way to the ceiling. The aesthetic and technology is used on both sides of the fireplace. The design methodology consisted of using expressive thick ticks which represented shelving units. This independent project was a collaboration between designer and client.
